The test series taken for osteopathic medical school stream, I don't know many details about this. I am not sure how many there are or when you take them but assume they coincide MCAT & USMLE exams. Refer to site.
USMLE Step 1
Very high stakes exam taken between your second and third years of medical school. This score opens or closes residency opportunities.
USMLE Step 2
High stakes exam taken sometime during third or fourth year of medical school. This test is required for continuing on with a residency program after graduating medical school. If you are not a US medical student, Step 1 and Step 2 must be done prior to your application for residency.
USMLE Step 3
Lower stakes test to be taken anytime during residency years. This test is required for licensure. This test is may be higher stakes for those applying to various fellowships, I am not certain.

ECFMG
If you are not a US medical student, this body serves as your liason into the US training system after medical school graduation.

Electronic Residency Application Service is used to apply for residency positions in the United States.
NRMP
This is a matching service where on one day at one time each year every applicant in the world finds out if they have a job in the United States and where. The service is done by rank where programs rank all the applicants they interviewed, and the candidates rank all the programs that they were invited for interviews. View match results
